Padua, the futuristic cinema in Brunswick

Through The Lost City of Melbourne documentary, we were introduced to the remarkable art deco Hoyts theatre called Padua. This iconic Brunswick venue boasted a futuristic UFO-like ticket booth and a grand rotating stage, showcasing both orchestral performances and main features. It was unfortunately demolished in 1982 but do check out the documentary for a treasure trove of rare archival footage, offering a captivating look at Melbourne’s bygone era and shedding light on the factors that have shaped the city’s present-day appearance.
